Red is the colour people want and rarely commit to, because on your own hair it means bleach first and a fade within weeks. On a wig it costs you nothing — wear it Friday, go back to black on Monday.

The reds we stock

99J burgundy is a deep wine red laid over a jet-black base. It reads almost black indoors and clearly red in daylight, which makes it the most wearable red we sell and the easiest to take to work. Copper and ginger are warm and bright, flattering on warm and olive undertones. Cherry and fire red are the boldest, with no dark base to soften them. Auburn sits between brown and red for anyone who wants warmth without a statement.

Why 99J is the one to start with

A dark base does two useful things. It keeps the parting looking like scalp rather than a bright line, and it hides the fade that every red eventually shows, because there is depth underneath. If you have never worn red, buy 99J before you buy cherry.

What we build

100% Remy human hair with aligned cuticles, lifted and coloured under controlled conditions and conditioned back. HD Swiss lace, pre-plucked hairline, bleached knots. Adjustable glueless cap with straps and combs. 150% to 250% density, 14 to 30 inches, in straight, body wave, deep wave and curly.

Red fades faster than any other colour

Red molecules are the largest, so they wash out first. Wash less often — every ten to twelve wears — in cool water with a sulphate-free colour-safe shampoo. Hot water opens the cuticle and takes the colour with it. A colour-depositing red conditioner every few washes keeps the tone topped up. Keep it out of strong sun and chlorine, both of which dull red quickly.

Heat

Lifted and coloured hair scorches at temperatures black hair handles easily. Keep irons under 350°F and always use a protectant — a scorched red goes orange and cannot be corrected.
