V-Part / U-Part Wigs

A V-part or U-part wig has no lace and no adhesive at all. There is an opening at the top of the cap, you pull a small section of your own hair through it, and that leave-out becomes the parting. The result is a real scalp at the part — because it is your scalp.

How it works

Braid or flatten the rest of your hair, leave a thin section out at the crown, slide the wig on and pull that section through the opening. Blend it over the wig hair with a brush. Total time is about five minutes, with nothing to lay, melt, cut or remove. It is the fastest install of any wig type.

V-part versus U-part

A U-part has a rounded opening, usually larger, which needs more of your own hair left out but gives a wider natural parting area. A V-part has a narrow, tapered opening that needs only a small strip — often half an inch — so it works for people who want to leave out as little of their own hair as possible. If your hair is fine or you are protecting it, choose V-part.

Who this suits

Beginners who do not want to deal with lace. Anyone whose scalp reacts to adhesives. People with full, healthy hair at the crown to blend with. And anyone who wants to be in and out in five minutes. It is less suited to you if your crown is thinning, since there is nothing to pull through.

Matching matters more than usual

Because your own hair sits on top of the wig hair, the two need to match in texture and colour. A bone-straight unit against coarse natural hair will not blend no matter how you brush it. Pick the texture closest to how your own hair looks when styled — kinky straight for blown-out natural hair, body wave for loosely waved hair.
