40 Inch Wigs

Forty inches is hair past the hip. At that length the two things that matter are density and texture, because a long wig that thins out below the shoulder looks like extensions and a long wig that tangles is unwearable. Every unit in this collection is 100% Remy human hair at 200% density or higher, built to stay full the whole way down.

How long 40 inches really is

On a person of average height, 40 inches of bone-straight hair falls to the hip or just below. The same 40 inches in deep wave or curly sits four to six inches higher, because the texture takes up length. So if you want hair that visibly reaches your hip, buy straight at 40 inches or wavy at 42. We stock 30, 34, 36, 40 and 42 inch units so you can pick by where it lands, not by the number on the label.

Density is not optional at this length

Hair naturally thins toward the ends. On a short wig nobody notices. On a 40 inch wig a 150% density unit reads as stringy from the elbow down. We build long units at 200% to 250%, and our 300 density range goes further for a full blowout look. The trade-off is weight, which is why the cap matters.

The cap carries real weight

A 40 inch, 250% density unit is heavy. Ours ship on an adjustable cap with reinforced straps at the nape and combs around the perimeter, so the load sits on the cap rather than pulling on your hairline. No glue needed. If you are new to long wigs, start at 30 or 34 inches and work up — the jump in weight from 24 to 40 inches surprises most people.

Textures that work long

Deep wave is the most forgiving at this length: the pattern holds its shape and hides the weight of the hair. Body wave reads softer and moves more. Bone straight is the most dramatic and the least forgiving, because every strand shows — which is why we only cut long straight units from Remy hair with aligned cuticles. Browse body wave and deep wave or straight wigs.

Keeping 40 inches tangle-free

Sleep with it braided or in a satin bonnet. Brush from the ends upward with a loop brush, never from the roots down. Wash every seven to ten wears with a sulphate-free shampoo, condition the mid-lengths and ends only, and let it air dry on a tall stand so the weight does not set a kink in the cap. A light serum through the ends once a week does most of the work.
