Wig Caps & Stands
Two cheap items decide how long a wig lasts and how good it looks on: what goes under it, and what it sits on when you take it off. Most units that fail early were stored folded in a drawer.
Wig caps
A cap does three jobs. It holds your own hair flat so the wig sits close to the head rather than riding up. It gives the combs something to grip, so the unit stays put without adhesive. And it puts a layer between your hair and the wefts, which stops friction damage on your own hair. Mesh caps breathe best for all-day wear; nylon caps compress flatter under a close-fitting unit; and cream or brown tones under HD lace disappear better than black does at the parting.
Wig stands
A unit stored on a stand keeps its cap shape and its hairline curve. A unit folded in a drawer develops a crease across the lace that never fully comes out, and the knots at the parting flatten. Collapsible stands are for travel and drying; a weighted canvas head is what you want for styling, because you can pin into it.
Why a stand matters most for heavy units
A 250% density or 30 inch unit is heavy, and a flimsy tripod will bow under it over weeks, setting a distortion into the cap. If you wear long or dense hair, buy the sturdier stand. See 40 inch wigs and 300 density wigs for the units that need it.

Elastic bands for tightening a cap at the nape, wig grips for extra hold without adhesive, and T-pins for securing a unit to a canvas head while you style or dry it.
A simple storage routine
Take the unit off from the nape, not the front. Brush it out from the ends up. Put it straight on the stand. If you are storing it for more than a few weeks, slip the net it arrived in over the top to keep dust out of the lace.
